My first pregnancy wasn’t planned. I was actually on birth control when I got pregnant. I had to decide with my partner whether we wanted to go through with the pregnancy or not. When we decided that this was what we wanted I sought advice from books, doctors and people I knew about what to expect from pregnancy. To my annoyance every story was different. I knew what to generally expect biologically but my body’s response and my emotional state was unique. The first thing that I realized is that the term “morning sickness” is extremely misleading. I was nauseous all the time, the time of day had absolutely nothing to do with it. I worried about the baby a lot and totally changed my lifestyle to cater to the well-being of my child. I never ate junk food, checked the labels of everything I bought, and sought organic, natural remedies to my discomforts. Emotionally, I actually enjoyed my pregnancy. I enjoyed bonding with my unborn child and feeling her grow and move inside me. I even enjoyed my “baby bump” and even bought myself some maternity lingerietoo.
